Immigrant Group Hosts DREAM Act Discussion at Redmond Library

The town hall will provide information about who is eligible and how to apply for a deportation deferment under the federal measure.

Immigrant advocacy group OneAmerica will host a town hall in Redmond on Thursday about the DREAM Act and President Barack Obama's recent announcement that the federal government will stop deporting young immigrants who meet certain requirements

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Redmond Regional Library. OneAmerica says its representatives will be able to provide information about who's eligible for the program, what it takes to apply, and the risks and benefits of participating.

"This is not amnesty. This is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship. It's not a permanent fix," Obama said during June a news conference, according to CNN. "This is a temporary stopgap measure."
