King County Councilwoman Jane Hague Launches Campaign into Potentially Crowded Field

Hague launched her campaign in front of 900 supporters this week. Several people have expressed interest for her seat, according to Public Disclosure Commission filings.

King County Councilmember Jane Hague kicked off her re-election campaign at Meydenbauer Center Wednesday morning.

Hague, who represents District 6, joined the Metropolitan King County Council in 1994 which was the first year of the County’s merger of County government with Metro, according to the King County website. District 6 includes Beaux Arts, Bellevue, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Kirkland, Medina, Mercer Island, Redmond, and Yarrow Point. The seats are nonpartisan.

Others who have expressed interest in District 6 are former Bellevue city councilwoman Patsy Bonincontri, Port of Seattle Commissioner John Creighton of Kirkland, and Mercer Island resident Richard E. Mitchell.

According to a press release from Hague, about 900 people attended her launch and she vowed to reinvent county government and protect taxpayers. Initial estimates indicate Hague raised around $80,000 at the breakfast, according to a press release.

Hague vowed to work in a nonpartisan way.

“The Republican Party was like family to me when I started out in politics but now the Democrats are like in-laws, and Independents have adopted me. We are going to have a blended family in this campaign and bring everyone together,” said Hague, according to the press release.

“The problems facing King County are not partisan. Everyone wants an efficient county government that delivers vitally needed services without wasting money. We just have to work together to see it gets done.

In her last campaign, Hague raised $428,000 and says she will raise at least $550,000 for this race, according to her campaign.

Filing week is June 6 - 10, though people may file for office by mail starting May 20.
