Monday is Labor Day: What's Open, What's Closed

Labor Day is Monday Sept. 5; here is a list of what's open and what's closed.

If you are traveling on Monday, check out the Washington State Department of Transportation web pages to plan your route. You can expect heavy traffic along I-90 Snoqualmie Pass, US 2 Stevens Pass, Interstate 5 near the U.S./Canadian border and I-5 between Olympia and Tacoma.

Here is a list of what’s open and what's closed:

 is closed Monday. It will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 6. There will also be a city council meeting Tuesday night.

Lake Washington School DistrictClosed Monday. First day of school is Tuesday, Sept. 6.

King County government: Closed.

US Postal Service: Closed.

King County Library System is closed Monday and will re-open Sept. 6.

King County Metro transit: Sunday schedule.

Sound Transit: Sunday schedule.

King County Transfer Stations (King County Solid Waste Division): Open regular hours.

State of Washington: Closed.

State liquor stores: The downtown Redmond liquor store will be open all three days (10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday); the Redmond Ridge store will be open Saturday and Sunday but closed on Monday.

Washington State Ferries: Routes will operate on a weekend schedule.

Federal government: Closed

Banks: Many, if not most, will be closed. Check your local branch.

Express delivery companiesFedEx and UPS will be open.

Garbage and Recycling: Garbage and recycling will be on its regular schedule in Redmond.
