Public Hearing on Medical Marijuana Gardens Set for Tuesday

The council will be gathering input on whether it should continue a six-month moratorium on so-called collective marijuana gardens.

The Redmond City Council will hold a public hearing at its regular meeting this Tuesday to gather public input on whether it ought to continue a six-month moratorium on medical marijuana gardens.

The council enacted the moratorium on Aug. 16 in response to recent changes in state law that allow jurisdictions to adopt zoning for collective gardens—areas where qualifying patients engage in the production, processing, transporting and delivery of marijuana for medical use as defined by a 1998 state law (RCW 69.50).

Redmond's moratorium prohibits the location, establishment, licensing and permitting of these gardens and is similar to moratoriums in , and .

Rob Odle, the city's planning director, that the moratorium would enable city staff to research the impacts of collective medical marijuana gardens and discuss possible regulations or restrictions.

Tuesday's city council meeting takes place at 7:30 p.m. at 15670 NE 85th St.
