Public Invited to Comment on WM Strike at Woodinville Meeting

State regulators will hear from both the company and customers on Thursday in Woodinville.

Customers of Waste Management will be able to comment to state regulators at a public meeting Thursday in Woodinville on the impacts of the company’s recent labor dispute on solid waste and recycling collection services. 

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) will hear a presentation from the company regarding their strike response strategy at 4 p.m. and will take comments from customers at 5 p.m. in the , 17301 133rd Ave. NE.

The commission has opened an investigation into Waste Management’s implementation of its contingency plan during the recent labor dispute and the impact on its customers due to the company’s inability to provide solid waste, recycling and yard waste collection services.

Waste Management's 153 recycling and yard waste drivers after contract negotiations between the company and Teamsters Local 117 stalled. Many of Waste Management's garbage truck drivers subsequently . The strike ended Aug. 2 when drivers .

King County Executive Dow Constantine and King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert on Wedensday urged the WUTC to conduct a thorough investigation into missed garbage, yard waste and recycling pickups.

The WUTC has received 51 inquiries from Waste Management’s customers regarding service during the strike, said the commission.
