Redmond Youth Partnership Sponsors Girls Unlimited Event

The program is targeted to young women in middle and high school and will include presentations from women at Boeing, Microsoft and other companies, as well as interactive activities.

Update Feb. 26: More details about the event have come out from the city of Redmond. Professional women from around the Redmond area will be at the Girls Unlimited event to share their story about how they got to where they are and what it takes to be in these fields. Women from Boeing, PopCap, Microsoft, Public Health, University of Washington, and Washington STEM, including keynote speaker Cheryl Platz with INGNITE and Microsoft, will speak. The cost of the event, $10, includes lunch and morning treats. Editor's Note: The following is a news release from the City of Redmond.

The Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee annual Girls Unlimited series continues this year with the theme “Expanding Your Tomorrow” on Saturday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Redmond City Hall, located at 15670 NE 85th St.

This session’s focus is on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers. Female professionals from Boeing, Microsoft, PopCap and others will share their story about their career choices. The program is targeted to young women in middle and high school and will include presentation and interactive activities.

Girls Unlimited was started to empower young women in our community to take charge of their lives and be a part of their change. Women professionals come and share their story about their career paths and talk about what it takes to get to where they are. Our keynote this session is Cheryl Platz from Microsoft who is also a member of IGNITE, Inspiring Girls Now In Technology Education.  

This event cost $10 but scholarships are available and prior registration is recommended. To register go to Redmond.gov/econnect and enter course # 45643. For more information email rypac@redmond.gov.

RASP is a wonderful group of writers from all walks of Redmond life. They hold an open mic on theRead More last Friday of every month at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. Not only do they have featured readers like Kathleen, but the open mic portion encourages anyone from the community to read their work. It's regularly quite good. All those with a hunger to get their work out in the world should attend.
