Tax Deadline Looms Today

Tax Day is normally April 15, but is two days later this year; here are some tips on how to get your taxes filed on time.

It's here. Today, April 17, is the deadline to file federal income taxes, or seek an extension in order to avoid penalties and interest.

You can file them online before midnight, using IRS Free File or some other service, or by using IRS e-file (the digital forms in this option look almost exactly like the paper forms and come with automatic calculations).

If you want to go old school, you can mail the paper forms to the Internal Revenue Service. Keep in mind the closes at 6 p.m.

Tax Day is normally April 15, but it is two days later this year because that date fell on a weekend, and Monday was Emancipation Day, a holiday in Washington, D.C., according to the U.S. Postal Service.
