The lanes will be closed at nights beginning Friday so crews can repair a pedestrian overpass hit by a truck last January.

Drivers should expect nighttime closures of three southbound Interstate 405 lanes in Kirkland this weekend so crews can repair a damaged pedestrian overpass.

The first closure will take effect Friday at 8 p.m. The overpass is just south of the NE 85th Street interchange, just west of .

Here is the Washington State Department of Transportation advisory on the closure:

Closure details:

  • Friday, March 16 to the morning of Sunday, March 18—Crews will close the three left lanes of southbound I-405. The first lane closes at 8 p.m., with all three lanes closed by 11 p.m. On Saturday, the lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. On Sunday, the lanes will reopen by 8 a.m.

An over-height vehicle struck the pedestrian bridge January 12, damaging I-beams that run horizontally along the length of the bridge and help stabilize it. Crews are in the process of replacing the I-beams with new steel tubes.

RASP is a wonderful group of writers from all walks of Redmond life. They hold an open mic on theRead More last Friday of every month at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. Not only do they have featured readers like Kathleen, but the open mic portion encourages anyone from the community to read their work. It's regularly quite good. All those with a hunger to get their work out in the world should attend.
