Traffic Enforcement Cameras Back on City Council Agenda

Council members are set to vote Tuesday on a proposal to end the current contract with vendor American Traffic Solutions and enter into a new agreement for school-zone speed cameras.

Redmond's controversial traffic enforcement camera program is back on the city council agenda, with council members set to vote Tuesday on a proposal to end the city's current contract with its camera vendor and enter into a new agreement that would keep speed cameras active near .

The proposal calls for the city to end its current contract with vendor American Traffic Solutions (ATS) effective Jan. 31, 2012, and negotiate a new agreement with ATS to continue the existing speed-camera program near Einstein Elementary from Feb. 1, 2012, through the end of the school year.

The document also calls for the council to consider expanding the speed-camera program as well as "research and develop intersection safety recommendations for future consideration and implementation."
