Would You Pay for a Guaranteed Space at the Park-and-Ride?

Sound Transit will begin to require paid permits for certain spaces at lots in Issaquah, Sumner, Tukwila and Mukilteo beginning next year. If all goes well, the the program could soon expand throughout the region.

Sound Transit will begin offering paid parking permits at four of its park-and-ride lots early next year and may soon expand the program through the region.

As The Seattle Times reports, 20 to 40 percent of spaces at lots in Issaquah, Tukwila, Sumner and Mukilteo will become reserved for those with paid permits sometime in early 2014. The permits will cost $5 each quarter for carpools and $33 per quarter for single drivers.

The transit agency has said it may soon expand the program to its other park-and-ride lots. Eventually, all spaces could become permit-only, and fees may increase to help offset overcrowding, the Times reports.
