Wild About Redmond: an Urban Habitat Tour

Saturday, June 2: Join Redmond Wild, the City of Redmond, and Sustainable Redmond in celebrating wildlife and local conservation efforts on an urban habitat tour!

Join us on Saturday, June 2, anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.!  Redmond Wild, the City of Redmond, and Sustainable Redmond are hosting a free to show people easy steps of how to be more wildlife friendly.  We will feature five local sites:

  • 2 homes
  • 1 balcony
  • 1 school


You can stop by any of the sites between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to enjoy our local wildlife and beautiful gardens and to see examples of steps you can take that will benefit wildlife. The event kick-off and center point will be at , where refreshments will be available. We will also have a guided walk of Grass Lawn Park and its sustainable elements.

Stay tuned to find out times of special guest speakers to learn and ask questions about local conservation efforts and how to be more wildlife friendly! Details will be announced closer to the event with addresses, directions, and times of guest speakers.

As part of the tour, we are also celebrating the support received from the Redmond Parks and Trails commission for certifying 22 of Redmond's park as wildlife friendly under the National Wildlife Federation's Certified Wildlife Habitat program. These park certifications exemplify that Redmond has adopted protecting wildlife and habitat as a priortiy, as well as encourages the city to maintain suitable habitat for wildlife in our parks. The park certifications also earned Redmond a large number of points, bringing Redmond closer to our goal of becoming a Community Wildlife Habitat

Guest Speakers: 10:30-11:15am, Grass Lawn Park Walk & Talk led by Timothy Cox, City of Redmond- Learn about Grass Lawn's Low Impact Development successful features and how they improve storm water and water quality issues, ultimately helping us and wildlife! 12:00-12:30pm, Walk & Talk at Home #1 led by naturalist Lara Vyas- See a backyard at the early stages as a wildlife habitat and learn easy steps that you can take to be more wildlife friendly at home, creating space for both you and the critters. Use this opportunity to ask a specialist about your habitat and goals! 12:45-1:15pm, Walk & Talk at Home #2 led by naturalist Lara Vyas- See a well established home habitat that shows great examples of lawn reduction, using plant diversity, and creating a bird habitat. Our front yard gets a fair amount of sun, it faces south. Back yard is more shady/wet. We've beenRead More trying to grow grass back there and just have never had good success. I would be open to whatever someone suggests for planting (veggies, sunflowers whatever). People can contact me at ariana at chris burgess dot com.
