Stone House Restaurant

Background and review of one of Redmond's most iconic restaurants.

Stone House restaurant offers unique, flavor-rich dishes in an intimate environment right in the heart of Redmond. Chef Ryan Donaldson creates new dishes regularly to take advantage of the most flavorful local meats, fish and produce in a style that might best be called new American. His cuisine is a blending of influences from Thai and Chinese to European and American Southwest. The resulting dishes are epicurean delights unique to Stone House. Each dish presents a parade of bright flavors to thrill your palette. Pair these dishes with the excellent local wines and ales on their list, and you have a memorable dining experience.

Ryan is young, but very experienced. He has been cooking since he was sixteen and has impressive credentials from Seattle Culinary Academy and Washington State University as well as other very good restaurants here and in the Southwest. His roots brought him back to the area and Ryan took over the Stone House kitchen in September 2008. It is a family affair – Ryan’s mom and two sisters work regularly in the restaurant. On very busy nights, Ryan’s brother, who has a bar of his own in Everett, and even Ryan’s dad also help out when needed. The restaurant seats only 32 inside, so during nice weather in summer, they have additional tables out front in a pleasant garden space. It's a great place to enjoy a quiet couple’s outing or to go with friends.

Since the menu changes with the availability of the locally sourced meats and produce, it is challenging to highlight dishes that typify the menu. The asparagus in prosciutto appetizer is excellent. The chili-crusted tenderloin with red pepper coulis is a delight for your taste-buds.  My personal favorites are Ryan’s duck breasts. I’ve had two or three different sauce/accompaniments, and they are all good. Finally, most diners save room for Ryan’s deserts.

The Stone House offers excellent value for the excellent dining and ambiance, but this level of service doesn’t come at Mickey-Dee prices. Be prepared to spend $35 to $50 per person for the evening.
