Update: Rockwell Elementary Teacher Dies, Funeral This Weekend

"Rockwell lost a beloved staff member this week," Principal Kirsten McArdle said about the death of physical education teacher Don Wong.

P.E. Teacher Don Wong, who worked at Norman Rockwell Elementary in Redmond, died on Monday, according to school officials.

"Rockwell lost a beloved staff member this week," Rockwell Principal Kirsten McArdle said.

He was with the Lake Washington School District since 1976, and taught at Rockwell since 2000.

Students at the school constructed a memorial on Wednesday in the gymnasium and middle school and high school students have been stopping by the school to add to it, McArdle said. Others are welcome to do so, she said.

The funeral service for Wong is Sunday, Feb. 17, at noon at Riverview Cemetary, 0300 SW Taylors Ferry Road, Portland, OR 97219.

McArdle said she will be working with his family to plan a local celebration of his life.
