Wild about Redmond: an Urban Habitat Tour

Who: You, , the City of Redmond, Sustainable Redmond, Green Redmond Partnership, the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), and guest speakers!

What: A FREE Urban Habitat Tour showing you EASY ways to be wildlife friendly!  Refreshments will be available at Grass Lawn Park.

Where: 5 local sites- Grass Lawn Park, two local backyards, a balcony, and the City's Conservation Garden

Why:

  1. To learn how you can create suitable wildlife habitat at home, work, school, and other places
  2. To celebrate the certification of 22 Redmond parks under NWF’s Certified Wildlife Habitat program
  3. To enjoy the beauty of our local wildlife and gardens

Guest Speakers:

10:30-11:15am, Grass Lawn Park Walk & Talk led by Timothy Cox, City of Redmond- Learn about Grass Lawn's Low Impact Development successful features and how they improve storm water and water quality issues, ultimately helping us and wildlife!

12:00-12:30pm, Walk & Talk at Home #1 led by naturalist Lara Vyas- See a backyard at the early stages as a wildlife habitat and learn easy steps that you can take to be more wildlife friendly at home, creating space for both you and the critters.  Use this opportunity to ask a specialist about your habitat and goals!

12:45-1:15pm, Walk & Talk at Home #2 led by naturalist Lara Vyas- See a well established home habitat that shows great examples of lawn reduction, using plant diversity, and creating a bird habitat.  Use this opportunity to ask a specialist about your habitat and goals!

RASP is a wonderful group of writers from all walks of Redmond life. They hold an open mic on theRead More last Friday of every month at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. Not only do they have featured readers like Kathleen, but the open mic portion encourages anyone from the community to read their work. It's regularly quite good. All those with a hunger to get their work out in the world should attend.
