Diary of a Mustang: Gearing Up for a Strong Finish

Redmond High School senior T.J. Whidby shares his thoughts on the team's playoff performance.

Even though we lost our first game in the playoffs to Inglemoor, Redmond baseball has battled back all the way through the loser’s bracket to get our revenge. Once we got into the loser’s bracket, we knew that we needed to play as best as we could so that we could get a bid to the state tournament.

First we had to beat Issaquah, and our bats really came alive as . Next up was Skyline, and we received an amazing pitching performance from Zach Abbruzza, who threw a complete game two-hit shutout as .

Finally, we . We knew that we would face the same pitcher that we had two times before, but this time he wasn’t going to shut us down.

We had a big two-run home run from Patrick McGrath to break the game open. Dylan Davis followed with a two-run home run of his own, along with Peter Hendron driving in two runs with a single up the middle. I didn’t have a very good day at the plate, but I knew that I had made some big plays in the field and that defensively I contributed to our success.

Now we get to play Marysville-Pilchuck at 4 p.m. Monday in a winner-to-state game at . Our team is excited beyond belief and we will do everything we can to make sure we win that game and go to the state tournament.

Abbruzza is on the mound again, and we know he is going to give it everything he has for a full seven innings. I have been swinging the bat well the last few days, and I am excited to see my hard work come into play in the game on Monday. It is the last time that we seniors get to play at Hartman Park, so it should be a memorable game.
