Mustangs Beat Inglemoor 6-2 To Keep Season Alive

Redmond baseball avenges its first-round loss.

Redmond baseball got revenge Thursday for its first round loss to Inglemoor by defeating the Vikings by a score of 6-2.

Future Oregon State Beaver Dylan Davis was in center stage as he took the ball for the Mustangs, pitching 5 and 2/3 innings while allowing only two runs on just four Inglemoor hits.

“Absolutely outstanding,” Redmond head coach Dan Pudwill said of Davis’ performance after the victory. “He stepped up in a big way today. He was dialed in, throwing a lot of strikes, and keeping them off balance.”

The scoring started in the bottom of the second inning when first baseman Peter Handron began the inning with an infield single. Moments later, junior Patrick McGrath smoked a Dustin Doucette pitch over the left field wall to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage.

The Vikings wasted no time getting even as they plated two men in the top of the third on a bases-loaded walk by Mitchell Gunsolus and an RBI ground-out off the bat of Blake Wilson.

Despite the two runs, Davis managed to strand two Inglemoor runners at second and third. Davis would continue wiggle his way off the hook as the third inning became the first of three consecutive innings in which Inglemoor would strand two runners in scoring position.

After giving up two runs in the top half, Dylan Davis came to the plate in the bottom of the third looking to redeem himself. Davis did so with style, crushing a 1-0 pitch so far that it nearly landed at Chateau Ste Michelle.

“He threw a first pitch curve ball for a ball, so I decided I’d load up a little earlier, and I expected a fast ball,” Davis said after the game. “Luckily I guessed right.”

Redmond held on to its two-run lead and would add on in the bottom of the sixth inning on a 2 RBI single by Handron that pushed the Redmond lead to 6-2. Michael Conforto came in to pitch relief for Davis and did not allow a hit in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work. Conforto struck out Adam Mosebar swinging to end the game and keep the Mustangs' season alive.

Redmond now awaits the winner of the third-place game from the WesCo 4A tournament, scheduled to take place at Everett Memorial Stadium on Friday between the Mariner Marauders and the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks. Redmond will face the winner for the right to play in the state tournament at 4 p.m. Monday.
