Redmond Girls' Golf Team Finishes Seventh at State

The Redmond High School girls' golf team did not end up with the state championship it hoped for, but finished a respectable seventh place.

The Redmond High School girls' golf team fell short of its goal of a state title but still finished a respectable seventh at the 4A girls' golf state championships in Spokane on Wednesday.

The Mustangs were hoping to win the state title for the first time since 2008 and looked primed to do so, but a tough first round left Redmond in a hole it could not climb out of.

Redmond had a surprising five golfers make the cut on the first day, but none entered the second day in the top 25, putting the Mustangs in the position of needing essentially career days from multiple golfers in order to pull back into the title race.

Kiera O'Hearn finished 29th overall, shooting an 83 on day two after an opening round 86 for a final score of 169.

Carley Kalina and Stephanie Schoeppel finished 32nd and 33rd overall with two-day scores of 170 and 172, respectively. Makayla Walker finished 39th overall with a score of 175 to round out the finishers for Redmond.

This was the eighth-straight season the Mustangs have finished in the top-11 of the state tournament. Redmond has won seven district titles over that period and won a state title in 2008.
