The Seattle Seahawks are headed to the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs following their 24-14 victory Sunday in the other Washington, and there's no shortage of players to thank for it.
First, there was the bruising-but-fleet-footed Marshawn Lynch, who carried the ball 20 times for 132 yards and a touchdown. His 27-yard touchdown run, by the way, came one quarter after Lynch lost a fumble that cut short the Seahawks' drive on the 2-yard-line. He recovered and later darted up the right side to score and deflate 84,325 fans in attendance.
Don't forget Russell Wilson, who of the record three rookie quarterbacks that played Sunday was the only one to advance. Matched against a hobbled Robert Griffin III, Wilson continued his habit of playing efficient, mistake-free games. He finished 15-for-26 with 187 yards and a touchdown pass. He also ran for 67 yards, outrushing RG3 and frustrating the Redskins with his elusiveness as the game wore on.
Then, there was the Seahawks' defense. After giving up 14 points on the first two Redskin drives, Seattle barely budged the rest of the game. It's what we've come to expect from this group, which recorded an interception (Earl Thomas) and recovered a Griffin fumble. That was the play on which RG3 left the game with an injured knee, although he spent much of the day running away from and getting hit by Seattle defenders.
The Seahawks' defense frustrated the Redskins so much that it prompted lineman Trent Williams to slap the never-bashful Richard Sherman during the postgame handshakes. (See the video in the media gallery) But Sherman didn't retaliate, instead putting his hands up, smiling and jawing as the two sides had to be separated.

After returning home, the Seahawks will travel to Atlanta to face the No. 1-seeded Falcons - who finished with the NFC's best record during the regular season - next Sunday. The game will start at 10 a.m., Seattle time and will air on FOX (Channel 13).
