Assistance League of the Eastside Donates Food-Filled Backpacks to Students in Need

The organization's Pantry Packs are helping feed local junior high students who wouldn't otherwise have enough to eat on the weekends.

Assistance League of the Eastside recently donated 60 backpacks of food for the Pantry Packs program to help feed students in need at a Redmond junior high school.

The Pantry Packs program was started by Shauna Yusko after school staff and counselors learned that students were coming to school hungry on Monday mornings, stating they did not have enough food at home.

Every Thursday, volunteers fill rolling backpacks (Pantry Packs) with kid-friendly, healthy food for the weekend (taking into account that there might not be items like milk or bread in the house). Students, selected by school counselors, take the packs home at the end of the week, and return them Monday to be re-filled again the following week.
