Countdown to 1K: Redmond's Motley Zoo Pet Rescue Approaches Milestone

To celebrate the organization nearing 1,000 pets adopted, we're sharing 10 adoptable pets with you.

Motley Zoo, which has been on a capital campaign to build a permanent facility, was founded in 2009 and has placed, to date, 990 pets with permanent homes.

Patch previously interviewed MZ founder, J'me Thomas; you can find that interview here.

Following are ten dogs and cats ready to become MZ "rock stars," just follow the links to see their profiles:

On its fundraising website, Motley Zoo says:

Founded in 2009, we have rescued ... primarily dogs and cats- though we have helped the occasional ferret, guinea pig, bird, and even a cow! We're a "rock-n-roll", cool crew, and we do things a bit differently! While in our care, we call our pets "roadies", and when they get adopted, they become "rock stars"! Our pets and people love our fresh, forward thinking and unique approach...and we're eager to keep on rockin' rescue, well into the future!

We have grown quite large and strong, and we have outgrown the ability to function without a facility- we really need a place where we can centralize operations, which will allow more people to get involved; where we can host orientations, training sessions and increase ongoing support; as well as where the public can stop by to view some of our animals and what we do. We're actually large enough already, that people are consistently confused when we say we don't have a facility to visit...so it appears we had better get on this!!

The foster based structure will remain intact, because that is what makes us strong, and allows us to do the in depth, one-on-one work we do with the pets, without contstraints of time or space, such as a typical animal shelter has. However, even with the strong foster system in place, we still truly need a place to gather where we can all focus on the common goal of saving pets...and you can help us make this big leap!

We will soon open a leased facility, temporarily, until our goals below can be met- we currently have secured funding for this purpose (only), through a grant. This temporary location will be the start of what is to come: a much larger, revolutionary, new facility that completely changes the idea of what an animal welfare agency can be.

This facility will be a full service operation, capable of matching people with pets, helping pets stay in their homes, and spreading the message and action of spay and neuter advocacy- as well as advance the relationship between people and their furry friends, thereby strengthening the power of pets in people's lives throughout the community!
